“in POLAROID HOTEL, Hoelck pays tribute to the art of Polaroid photography with a book of images that capture intimate moments of his life and career throughout 17 years, showing that just because Polaroid has aged it hasn’t lost its appeal”

Known for his dark, sinister and provocative exposé Patrick Hoelck’s photographic expressions captured in series of Polaroids spanning more than a decade long.

I caught up with Patrick on his book latest release…

Sagepress   Q).  What inspired Polaroid Hotel book?

Patrick        A).  I wanted to put something together that wasn’t so precise. The beauty of polaroid lies in the unexpected imperfections and the anticipation to see what you have captured.

Sagepress    Q).  Do you have a favorite subject, person, body part, or look you are trying to capture? Or is it based on being in the moment?

Patrick       A).  The polaroids are a result of my efforts to capture moments I wanted to remember, one minute in the day where I am wholly present and able to observe and reflect on someone or something that has caught my attention. I don’t have a favorite subject or look, I love all of the moments captured in the book, they all remind me of special times in my life.

Sagepress   Q).  Have the ideas or personalities changed since you first started shooting these images?

Patrick      A).  So much has changed since I started shooting these images, including my own story. I like to be able to return to those moments in the book and reflect on them.
